CASH DEPOSIT FEE
From a young age, I was taught to save money. I saved R5 coins for some years and I need the money now. I counted them and packed them as per the bank's instructions. They all came to R8000. I went to deposit my coins into my bank account. I have been a Standard Bank customer for about 48 years. I was horrified to learn that they will charge me more than R1000 to deposit my R8000. I am questioning the sensibilty of saving money when all that will happen is that other people will take 15% of the money for themselves. I did not deposit the money. I am now sitting with a lot of coins which I do not know how to get rid of it. I checked the internet and it looks like other banks charge a lot less (ten times less), but I am not sure as they do not say these things clearly. I am rather disappointed with the high "commission" that the bank charge me for my diligently collected savings.
