Card stopped for all Point Of Sale (POS) functions

I discovered on Friday the 15th of May 2015 that my card was unable to withdraw money. I proceeded to do shopping and when i wanted to pay, the POS system and teller said that my transaction had been declined. After a few more attempts, i had to leave the store embarrassed as i was unable to make the purchase. When i called Standard Bank, the consultant said that there was no issue with my card. Today, 19th of May 2015, was the first day i could get to the bank. I spoke to a teller called Norma Pila at the Boulders, who was immediate able to tell me the issue once i described the problem.
She told me that my cheque card had been disabled for all Point Of Sale transactions whether it be card swipes or ATM withdrawals. She said that i am not the first person she has had the issue with. She issued me with a temporary card and said she would investigate. I would like to commend her on her professional and efficient attitude.

So my main issue is that Standard Bank did not inform me in any way about this issue and their call centre staff are unable to identify these issues. I have also incurred additional bank charges as a result of having to use other bank cards.

Explanation Please?
