Can't close my credit account even after it should have been done 5 years ago.

So I went to the Wonderpark junction branch about 5 years ago to close my credit card account. The lady who helped me made sure I didn't owe anything on the account, had me sign a bunch of papers, cut up my credit card and sent me on my way. Fast forward to this year when I went to close my cheque account only to be told I still have a credit account and owe money on it. Was told I had to phone the credit card department. When I phoned they couldn't tell me why I owed money on it and sent me back to the branch. The guy who helped me at the branch flat out told me he couldn't believe that I didn't know about this account as there was a monthly automatic payment made by Standard Bank into my credit account. I assumed as it said SB Autopay it was bank charges. So to close my account I have to pay off the debt and then phone the credit card department to have it closed. I paid the outstanding amount but had to wait 48h even though it was paid from a Standard Bank account. The next day I receive a sms notification that my purchase for amazon prime (I don't have amazon prime) was declined due to an incorrect cvv number. When I phone the credit department to tell them someone is using my account she tells me that she will report the ***** but that there is some kind of hold on my card and someone will contact me within 24h. 24h passes but no one phones. So I phone again. Again told that there is a hold on the card so it can't be closed and even more payments have been made using my credit account. I phone the ***** department and receive a service request number. 2 Days later I get a sms notification that the issue has been resolved and that I will be contacted with the details. Another 24h later and I have received nothing! I am beyond frustrated with this pathetic service! How am I supposed to trust them if they can't even close an account? And then allow ******** to use my credit account even after I alerted them to the fact! It is absolutely ridiculous.

Update: Even more *****ulant charges have been made using my credit account. Supposedly someone decided to issue me a new credit card and this card is now being used to buy from amazon.
The only escalation that took place is in the amount owed by me supposedly and my increasing frustration.
This bank is beyond useless. I think it's time to visit the banking ombudsman.
