Blocked by exhaustive dark ages security questions

I noticed a payment on my cheque account I didn't recognise. It gives a number on the sms to call if you want to query the payment. I called to query. An automated voice told me to enter my card number and secret pin, I did that. I got through to a consultant.
She asked me my ID number and only then could she access my account, so why I had to enter my card number and pin in the first place is a mystery?? She then asked me for 2 debit orders on my account, where my account is based and then what my monthly limits are on my accounts. I can't remember when last I changed my limits but I certainly don't memorise them! She then said officiously 'I'm afraid I'm going to have to terminate this call' as I didn't guess them right.
I then called prestige banking to get the same information and got myself a run-around and was told 'I'm afraid (very afraid staff generally) we have to ask these security questions', 'but they're stupid!' I said.
To get info on a deduction of myyyy money, I had to give:
1. Bank account number
2. Secret pin number
3. ID number
4. 2 debit orders
5. Monthly withdrawal limits
?what?
I still don't know what that payment was. Does my bank even care? I suspect not
