Beware of Standard bank travel wallet
I took out a travel wallet for a trip to USA in case i needed extra funds, or had a problem with my credit card. On 12 December on checking into a hotel my credit card wouldn’t go through, so I used my travel wallet and the hotel placed a hold on the funds. On checkout on 19 December I paid with my normal Standard bank MasterCard and they released the hold on my travel wallet. ( I had double checked the hold had been released the night before too) . I checked the balance on my travel wallet now 6 weeks after checking and it shows that the hold for the amount for the hotel is still there. I emailed the hotel who checked for a 3rd and 4th time and they said the hold was released on 19 December. After almost an hour on phone to Standard bank I have to fill in a dispute form which will take a further 3 weeks. So 9 weeks to get funds back!! I would hate to think of someone traveling overseas who needed those funds having to face this issue. Luckily the rest of the trip I used my Standard bank MasterCard and all holds placed by the hotel were released within 48hours. This is not the case with a Standard bank travel wallet. I have seen other reviews on hellopeter with exact same problem with travel wallets and holds , so do yourself a favour and don’t use travel wallet - false sense of security and could be stranded overseas with no funda
