Bank Charges and debit orders going off days later
I have a cheque account with Standard Bank, I have recently discovered that I am being charged a honouring fee of R120 every time Standard Bank honours a payment for which there are no funds in my account. Now if I had an overdraft on my facility this may be acceptable, however I do not. Secondly the reason for insufficient funds is due to debit orders or purchases going through days later sometimes even weeks. Surely if I do not have funds in my account a purchase should not go through. I have done some inquiries and it seems all other banks send sms notifying if an amount is being reserved for a payment still pending, why does Standard Bank not offer this basic service? Now you have to literally keep track of each transaction because your online statement is not accurate at all. I think this is poor service and I feel I am being charged these fees by no fault of mine. Only to notice its been over a few months that they have been charging me. Not only this but overdraft fees for an overdraft account I don't have. I am very unhappy and if Standard Bank wont address this I will need to consider other alternatives. Very unhappy client.
