Bank Account being held hostage
My parent has relocated overseas several years ago. She changed her email address via the online portal which was accepted, unfortunately, subsequent attempts to login request an authentication code with the code being sent to an email address she held over a decade ago.
Multiple attempts to contact the bank have been made to correct this very simple to fix issue but with no success. Call centre staff advising that they can't do anything to help and that my parent should contact the specific local branch they used to be linked too - this seems bizarre that a simple communications details update cannot be done following some security questions. This advise even went as far as suggesting that they physically visit their old local branch - all this just to update a simple email address.
Eventually they were guided on to speak to the international banking team, who seemed potentially helpful, although they requested email scans of bank cards which seems very odd and not good practice at all. To date they have still not updated any details or attempted to get in contact, despite this matter dragging on for months.

I last heard from yourselves on the 22nd of June, in which I responded to an email regarding my contact number as I am currently in the UK, hence a +44 international code.
As yet I still have not had any further contact and my mother (who still has no access to her pension) is stuck with an account she cannot use. Additionally, as mentioned in the review a member of the Standard Bank team dealing with international banking/queries by the name of Primrose advised her to send through signed, scanned copies of her passport and card to the internet banking email address. To date she has still had no response or further assistance.
To top that off, I am concerned by the request for scanned documents, especially her bank card.
You are marketing yourselves as a modern bank, making use of technology to make banking easier but then you still want a person to spend circa R40,000 on a plane ticket alone, just to update an email address?

Gotten to the point where I think a complaint with the ombudsman is necessary.

Will be lodging a complaint as this has been going on for months. Absolutely ridiculous service levels and zero concern for how their long time customers are affected by easily remedied issues.
