Atrocious Service & Attitude From Employee at Standard Bank Verulam

On Saturday morning I went to Verulam Standard Bank with my wife as she required a bank statement. We reported to enquiries and were being assisted by Sne Dlamini.

We stated that we required a statement which was to be used for FICA purposes at another financial institution. Sne Dlamini then stated that if we were to print a Bank Statement in the branch my wife is going to be charged R50 for the statement. We enquired why we were being charged so much for the statement & she rep**** that the charge is R50 to print a statement in the branch & R11 if we printed the statement at the ATM.

We then rep**** that the statement from the ATM will not suffice as the statement needs to contain a bank stamp in order to be meet the FICA requirements in order to be accepted by the next financial institution. We then made it clear to her that my wife is not prepared to pay R50 for a statement as that is a preposterous amount to pay for a statement. She then rep**** that, this is just the way it is & I must decide which alternative we are going with. As far as she is concerned a statement is a statement & she has no interest in my dealings thereof.

I then reiterated that we need the statement for FICA purposes and we are not prepared to pay R50 & she must find a cheaper alternative. She then states that she doesn’t know what the FICA requirements for statements are and that if I AM SMART ENOUGH I MUST STEP BEHIND THE COUNTER & DO HER JOB! – Really? She then asked if I am the account holder and if not she will only speak to my wife. I stated to her that we are married in C.O.P and I have a legal right to speak on behalf of my wife, which man doesn’t?

She then began to have words with me and people from the queue then started to barge in and jump to her assistance. She then proposed that I am retarded and know nothing about banking.

I asked to speak to her manager & a MRS Singh came to our assistance. She then said to Sne Dlamin that she will discuss the issue with her later & enquired how she can assist. I then described my situation to her & reiterated that we are not willing to pay R50 for a statement & she must provide a cheaper alternative. I said that we only needed a bank stamped statement for FICA purposes, the manager then describes that she doesn’t know whether the receiver wants to see proof of address or what is on the statement or what kind of FICA this is. I then rep**** that the FICA requirements in respect of documents are the same for all financial institutions i.e Certified copy of ID, Bank Statement & Proof of residence & how can the both of them not be able to assist us accordingly?

The manger then returned to her desk offering no assistance at all. Once the manger had left our presence the “honourable Sne Dlamini” with that attitude of “entitlement” proceeded to pass smart remarks back on forth whilst fumbling through her computer trying to ascertain the charges for the various statements available. By then I was at my wits end dealing with her attitude of resentment that I laid my phone on the counter stating that I was recording the conversation. It was only then that she zipped her trap, printed the statement & we left!!

In a nutshell Standard Bank, it is preposterous to charge R50 for a bank statement!! Your staff are *********** and full of attitude. Sne Dlamini had me still spitting fire long after I had left the bank! I would suggest you move her to back office where she has no interaction with clients. One more thing, please retrain your staff regarding FICA requirements and enlighten them on human etiquette & mannerisms.

Notification will be sent through in due course instructing you to close all my wife’s accounts with your institution.

You should send a big thank you to Sne Dlamini commending her on a job well done as we have truly lost all faith in Standard Bank.

In closing, I work for a JSE listed corporate company and do not have time to waste typing out reviews on Hello Peter. If you wish to accept this statement as a load of hogwash from a disgruntled patron then you do so at your own peril.
