Account Frozen | Extremely Frustrating and Emotionally Draining

My account has been locked for over two weeks due to a FICA issue, and I still cannot access my own funds. I went to the Greenstone branch where they gave me a six-month statement and told me I needed to provide proof for every payment that’s ever come into my account — including my salary and transfers from my wife, who uses the same bank.

I gathered all the necessary documents and proof I could, including statements from as far back as January 2024 (which I had to pay for, because they couldn’t provide them), only to be told by Pontsho from the Braamfontein branch that it still wasn’t enough. Now I’m being asked to go back even further, all the way to early 2024, and justify every cent that came into my account — as if I’m guilty of something for receiving my own salary and family support.

I’ve been trying to follow up repeatedly, but communication has been terrible. Meanwhile, I got paid on July 25th, but still can’t access my money. My wife and I are expecting a baby, and this situation has put us under serious emotional and financial stress. Debit orders are bouncing, and I can’t even buy essentials for our household.

This treatment is unacceptable. I need someone at Standard Bank to take responsibility and help resolve this immediately. No one deserves to be stranded like this.
