Account closure - handed over to attorneys
I work for several months at a time overseas. I transfer large sums of money to my SA account periodically which discharges any deficit in the account and puts it into significant credit. Last week, I received an email to say that a recurring payment had been rejected. I was surprised because, whilst I was in overdraft, I had only used about half of the facility.
I contacted the bank and they told me it was an internet banking problem. However, when I was put onto internet banking I was told that there was a 'lock' on my account. Several days passed with many calls, before I was finally told that the account had been handed over to attorneys for collection.
I've been with the (sub) Standard Bank for close to thirty years, and, while the service has rarely been above average, I stuck with them because it was no worse than anywhere else. I own my own home and am completely financially solvent. I earn a seven figure salary. Yet the first I hear that there a problem IS AN EMAIL saying a payment has been bounced. I STILL haven't received a notification that the account has been passed over to collections. If you can send a email with my statements and bounced payments, WHY CAN'T SOMEONE SEND ME AN EMAIL TO SAY THE ACCOUNT HAS A PROBLEM?!?!!!?!!!!! Instead the mendacious cr*p I've been fed to the effect that "You couldn't contact me"
You are a second rate organisation and I really don't know why I bother with you. I pay bank charges of about R500/month for a top tier account but the service is not even good enough to rate ONE star.
