A bank that you cant use!!
As an expat working overseas I have some of my salary banked into the Standard Bank in South Africa so I am able to transfer funds to various accounts that need to be paid via the Internet, the problem is once your money is in your account you cant use it. After spending more than US$300.00 in airtime contacting the help line I have now given up.
When you use the Internet Banking you receive a One-time password sent to you via SMS so you can do a transaction, how are you supposed to get your foreign Cell number before you have even arrived in the country you are going to work in. The bank informs me I must go to the Bank in person to produce my new Cell number, a bit difficult when you are thousands of miles away.
Why cant the bank use a token or some other means of security for online banking ? even backward countries (Zimbabwe) use this system .
The next time I am in South Africa in the Standard Bank will be to close my account as it is no use to me.
