1500 Rand for Bank Statements

TLDR Standard banks wants to charge me R1,500.00 for getting bank statements sent to me via email from March 2017. FNB makes this available for free.

So I need bank statements going back to 2017 to do my tax. Standard Bank doesn't send you statements unless you opt in. Then they charge you R60.00 per statement going back over 6 months. They wanted to charge me R1,440.00 for my own bank statements which I could see on the consultant's terminal is literally a few clicks of a button to email, there aren't even printing costs.

I'm closing my account. If you want a good, ethical bank that doesn't try to charge you large amounts of money for services that cost them next to nothing then go somewhere else.

Standard Bank: Don't try to lie and say that there are costs for storing the data, it's 2019 and it costs you next to nothing with the available technology.

Okay, apparently all banks do this. I see that the costs I was quoted were still higher than standard bank's own published fees for 2019 https://www.standardbank.co.za/static_file/South%20Africa/PDF/Personal%20Pricing/2019/Elite_Banking_Pricing_2019.pdf

If you look at Absa's fees, they offer the same service online but for R7.50 a statement. For the 18 months that go further back than their free statements do, it would cost me a whopping R135.00 https://www.absa.co.za/content/dam/south-africa/absa/pdf/pricing-brochure/2019/2019-retail-on-sale-pricing-brochure.pdf

So why wouldn't SB have this option? All banks are ******* and we can't seem to do anything about that, but some of them are definitely less full of **** than Standard Bank.

Looks like hellopeter censors prices in comments but the bottom line is ABSA charges one hundred and thirty five rand for the same thing. Pricing guide https://bit.ly/2YEMV5N
