12 years to update my address and counting
I have been trying for 12 years to update the residential address on my credit card. Last month, when I received my credit card statement with the address I left 12 years ago, I went to the Randburg branch and made yet another attempt to rectify it. The consultant phoned the credit card division and asked them to update it (why my cheque account and credit card account have different addresses is beyond me - no one can explain it to me). The consultant assured me that my current address had been captured and would appear on my credit card statement from February.
When I received my February statement this morning, I was furious to see that the old address still appeared. I went back to the Randburg branch this morning. They were offline and didn't know when they would be back online. I asked to see the branch manager who blamed Telkom for being offline - 'it's beyond our control' - and said she could only assist me if I brought my proof of residence. I didn't have this with me - I wasn't even asked for it last time - and in any event the bank already has my current address listed on my cheque account. How many more times do I need to give it to them? I left having received no assistance at all and feeling doubly frustrated.
Out of desperation, I called their complaints division. The consultant told me that my current address DOES appear on my credit card profile but said the reason it doesn't reflect on my statement is probably attributable to some kind of IT issue. She took my phone number and a short while later I received an SMS with a reference number.
The service I have received relating to this matter is a disgrace. If it isn't resolved - quickly and properly - I am cutting ties with Standard Bank. I am beyond fed up.
