Your branches in Mossel Bay are gross - blame owners
When I visited the other Spur branch at the Point last year (Minnesota Spur), my wife found a hair in her food. Management were quick to say that nobody in the kitchen had long hair. That's nice and all, but where did that blonde (my wife's a brunette) hair come from?
Yesterday my family wanted to go to the Hartenbos Spur and I half-heartedly agreed. My wife jokingly said "I hope there's no hair in my food this time". And there wasn't. In stead there was one in mine.
I called the manager and asked whether this is the same owner as the other Spur and whether they have the same company policies. Yes and yes. Of course.
I was then told that nobody in the kitchen has hair that long. Of course. Company policy must be to avoid responsibility first and foremost. I must say that Natasha, who I know from Ocean Basket, handled the fallout as best she could. Good manager with bad bosses.
For this to happen twice in a row to the same people is so unlikely as to suggest that it happens much more often than what one would think. And if that is the case, one wonders why policy hasn't been changed to address it? A simple solution like Spur branded caps would be the obvious solution, but that would require spending money. Can't have that.
This restaurant is a prime example for why Mossel Bay's dining experience has gone to the dogs in the last decade. It's owned by the same group of people who own half the restaurants in Mossel Bay. And when you have a monopoly, you don't really need to care about silly things like customer satisfaction and hygiene.
There is no passion for food here - it's all about the bottom line. If you ever get to meet these fine businessmen, ask them what they do with the half-eaten garlic and chilli they take off the tables at their Ocean Basket. Waste not, want not, right?
There is still quality and passion in this town, but you will not find it at Takoda Spur, or at any establishment where cost cutting is ranked higher than customer experience, food quality and hygiene.
When choosing your dining experience in Mossel Bay, try to patronise the (very few) independently owned restaurants. It may be quite the c**** to find them, outside the garbage dump that is the two restaurant monopolies of our fine town.
Avoid Takoda Spur, avoid Minnesota Spur, avoid Ocean Basket Hartenbos. I'd add more, but this platform has a character limit. Just ask who owns the restaurant before you enter - trust me.
As a note - this does not reflect my experiences at other Spur Branches. I suggest that corporate send inspectors down. Your brand is being tarnished in Mossel Bay.
