Topeka Spur Kenilworth

Good day,

I have been putting of writing this review for a long time, but i have gotten to the point where i can't take it anymore.

I have been taking my family to Topeka Spur on a regular basis for about six years now. My children has grow up in this Spur and know most of the waitrons by name. I keep on returning because we have always had good service and amazing food, but unfortunately things started changing a while ago when we noticed that there had been a change in management.

We walked in the one morning to find a manager reprimanding a waitron in front of guests because of a trolley that a guest put in a place that it was apparently not suppose to be, which is a place where i personally have been putting our trolley for years. The place where he wanted the trolley is openly exposed to the outside of the Spur where anybody could just walk of with it in a split second. This all happened infront of my two young children that would even see behaviour like that at home never the less in a public restaurant. Needless to say we desided to turn around and walk out.

Another time we witnessed a waitress faint in the store and it turned out that she had epilepsy. The way it was handle was horific. Nobody seemed to have any care for the woman lying on the floor and there was nobody in management with any type of knowledge on how to handle the situation or the medical condition. They were all just standing there waching her and hoping that she will wake up and get off the floor. They treated it more like a burden than anything else. What would happen if my wife had to be at the Spur by her self and suffer a asthma attack. I have a real concern for the guests and staff of this Spur. The waitress was eventually taken out on a stretcher by paramedics, but asked to get off in the parking lot as the manager wouldnt supply her with the neccessary paperwork. This is disgraceful. If she had suffered a heart attack i am sure that the manager would rather have her life in danger because of procedure.

I have noticed things like managers walking around with shirts not tucked in, but have heard stories about waitrons that has been there from the first time i got there that has been threatened, gotten warnings or even hearings for the simplest things.

The food and service at Topeka is still amazing, but i can unfortunately not sit idly by and watch how good people go day after day dreading there jobs and not knowing whether they will still have one the next day. I am writing this review in the hopes that something will be done about this situation and if not i will not hesitate to contact the local news letter with this information.

Regards,

David Muir

Hi David,

We really appreciate you taking the time and trouble to pen your concerns to us. We will most definitely be discussing them with the owner/operator of the Topeka Spur.

To answer some of your questions in your comment: all staff issues should be managed professionally and we always subscribe to "Praise in Public, Reprimand in Private" - we are concerned that this was not the case during a visit there. With regards to medical conditions - there should always be at least one First Aider on each shift to assist if customers or staff have any medical issue (alongside management).

Please allow us to investigate and address your concerns and feedback will be provided shortly. Thank you again for sharing your frustrations,

Kind regards
Bev Cornwell
