The worst customer service from the worst Senior Manager ever

Manager Leckson at Golden Falls Spur in Winchester Hills wanted us to pay twice for a meal that wasn't even of good quality. We order our meal which came on time there wasn't any issues with our waitress however came time to pay the bill and we advised we would be using a card the waitress brought the speed point we hand over our card and we receive notification to say the payment was successful the Senior Manager: Leckson walks up to our table to and tells us we must make payment again as the machine says the payment had declined. We advise the manager that we can not make payment again as we have not received notification from the bank to say the first transaction had been reversed. The manager who then told us we are finding it hard to understand the situation and make a cash payment which we declined to make he then told us that they have pamphlets from ABSA that explains what had happened when we asked to see the pamphlet he was unable to show it to us he argued with us for an hour insulting us continously refused to compensate us as his customers furthermore laughed and ridiculed us. Unaceptable for a well renown restuarant. Never ever again.

Hi Sarah, Thank you for sharing your frustration with us. Regrettably, the SMS from the bank is not a guarantee that the money has been deducted from your account. Basically, what happens when an authorization request is sent to the issuing bank when processing a sale - the approval response from the issuing bank is never received by the point of sale device resulting in a “time out” message. Some issuing banks send out SMS messages to cardholders, this happens as a result of the approved authorization requested and not confirmation of the sale. The best option is then to ask the restaurant (or retailer) for the "Timed Out" print out to ensure that this is the error message received and if there is a double debit, the bank can be alerted along with the relevant store. If there was a double payment, the restaurant would pick it up in the Cash Up at the end of the evening and the standard procedure is that they then reverse the transaction. However, this is seldom the case. We hope that this explanation clears up any confusion. We will however follow up with the owner/operator of the Golden Falls Spur to ensure that the transaction was correct. Kind regards
