Spur Bethlehem , Free State

On 18 December 2025, I took my 2-year-old son to Spur in Bethlehem, Free State. What should have been a simple lunch turned into a horrible and upsetting experience.

My son was playing in the kids’ play area while staff were largely inattentive and chatting at tables. I later discovered my child had faeces smeared on his clothes, which also got onto me. After checking his pull-ups, I confirmed he had not soiled himself. Staff then confirmed that another child had defecated in the play area and that it had not been cleaned, meaning my son picked it up from the slides.

I informed the manager, whose only response was that he would look at the cameras. There was no urgency, accountability, or proper response to a serious hygiene and health issue.

Leaving a children’s play area contaminated is completely unacceptable. We left immediately, distressed and shocked. I expected far better from a family restaurant.
