More training needed/rude

As a frequent patron of Spur, located conveniently within walking distance of my residence, I have consistently experienced high-quality service that aligns with expected customer engagement standards. However, my visit today presented an unexpected deviation from the usual service excellence.

During this visit, I interacted with an employee, Buhle, who was responsible for assisting her colleague, Sbonelo, in processing an ABSA voucher redemption. Sbonelo upheld the established service quality benchmark, delivering exceptional customer experience, which I have come to associate with Spur. However, Buhle repeatedly emphasized that she was unfami**** with me as she primarily works evening shifts, despite her manager affirming my status as a regular customer beyond specific time slots.

This interaction raised concerns regarding procedural consistency, service training efficacy, and frontline employee engagement. Customer recognition should not be positioned as a prerequisite for quality service delivery, as the core objective of hospitality is to ensure seamless transaction facilitation and an optimal dining experience.

As a result of the interaction, I opted to proceed with a cash payment rather than redeem the voucher, leading to a diminished overall customer experience. I strongly recommend a structured customer service training program to reinforce key principles such as professional engagement, hospitality standards, and an understanding of business sustainability. Employees should be educated on the fundamental role that customer satisfaction plays in operational success, including its direct correlation to financial sustainability and employment security.

Service-oriented industries thrive on customer retention and positive brand perception. It is crucial that frontline employees recognize their role in fostering a welcoming environment rather than approaching interactions with resistance. Instances where service representatives display disengagement or reluctance directly impact brand reputation and long-term business viability.

I appreciate Spur’s ongoing commitment to service excellence and trust that constructive measures will be considered to ensure alignment with best practices in customer engagement.
