*****ED SPUR WAITERS
Coming all the way from Eldoraigne, Centurion, Pretoria and having our living in granddaughter's special 16th Birthday at Table 051, Silverbay Spur, Melkbosstrand next to the Atlantic Ocean Beachfront during sunset turned sour while it should have been the sweetest and best experience for her but also to us as grandparents. It was on Tuesday, 28/09/2021 at about 18:00 when we sit down after our granddaughter have chosen SPUR above other local Seafood Restaurants like Damhuis & Orca Restaurant. She could choose just what she liked and I must say there were nothing wrong with the food quality and standard. It was mouth-watering nice and we exchanged cell phone photos of the event for the rest of the family in Gauteng and KZN. Everything was still jolly and I paid the bill of R658.00 in R800.00 cash with a smile BUT it is there when the whole beautiful event crashed....Our "friendly" waiter, 'Modise (5)' came back with the change and were very talkative as if he want my attention away from the change BUT being a Specialist Police Investigator and a senior officer for a long time my sixth sense told me to check the change. It was here when 'Modise' quickly greeted and told me he does not have a R1.00 in change and if I would mind he keeps it. I actually found it very arrogant coming from a waiter who just got a good 10% Tip from me in cash but kept my pride not to disturb the other clients and our granddaughter's memories of her 16th. As soon as I counted the cash of 2 x R20.00 notes I realised something is wrong because it cannot be a R1.00 coin that should be a challenge but a R2.00 coin. I immediately took the Invoice and my cell phone and start to calculate. "Modise" should have noticed it and quickly bend over the bench and ask if something is wrong or are we okay? Noticing I am counting and telling my wife the change is way-out wrong because I am missing a R142.00 in change and not just the R40.00 received. It is then that my granddaughter noticed that I am getting up and she asked politely that I must now not get angry and ruin the outing for every-one..."Modise" quickly came around the table and ask if he have given me the wrong change. I just held my breath and told him it is not the R1.00 he must be worried about but the R101.00 short if he minus the R1.00 he already owned himself. The waiter then just said okay and run to the cashier and while we were leaving said sorry for the small mistake and gave me the R100.00 in cash with the words that he does not have a R2.00 and that I surely would not mind going without it. I almost lost it and wanted to speak directly to the owner and ask if he knows what potential ********* he is utilising and that I claim my waiter's tip back with the R2.00 for trying to ***** / ***** me but because my granddaughter asked me to stay calm I just left with anger in my heart. I would forsake my duty as a Peace Officer to not warn the Public to be careful if they visit SPUR because it seems SPUR hire waiters without integrity and doing thorough vetting & screening on them in order to determine if there waiters are crime free citizens; especially at Silverbay SPUR, Melkbosstrand you need to be extra careful. Look out and count your change if a waiter "Modise" serves you!
