Bad service & Bad quality food

We initially credited Spur as a place to go to if you wanted good service and good food. Our recent experiences however, (depending on which Spur we went to) has been that Spur either offered good food and bad service, or good service and bad food, and because they at least got one thing right, we never really felt the need to complain.

However, today we were hit with a double whammy at Spur in Blue Route Mall, and in all fairness need to highlight this for the sake of their future business, and to warn other patrons equally. My wife & I had our 2 1/2 year old son and 4 month old daughter in the pram with us when we popped in at the Spur today. We asked for a seat closest to the play area, and 'were told that there was none and were offered a seat right in front at the entrance (the furthest place away from the play area). When I got up 2 minutes later to take my son to the play area, I noticed at least 5 other cleared tables, closer to the play area. I then came back to point this out to my wife, and on the way back, asked the manager Siviwe to please hold the table for us. He then gave me attitude as to why they cannot reserve tables to which I asked why is it such a big thing to just ask someone to keep this table for me for 10 seconds, so that I can tell my wife, we found something closer (as there were plenty other free tables). He eventually agreed and a minute later we had a new table. Our waitress was very absent, and no-one ever during the course of our entire meal checked in on us to confirm if all was in order.

Our waitress was asked to prepare our son's meal first, but then bring it out with the other meals so that 1st, we all et together, and 2nd, by the time he gets his meal it would be cool already for him to enjoy. She brought it to him hot & straight from the kitchen and placed it in from of him. We assumed: "Well maybe our food will out soon then too". Our food was brought out almost 20 minutes later!? Then my wife asked for some hot water (no less than a 1/4 cup) just enough to warm the small bottle we keep our 4 month old daughter's bottle in. We had the container, we only asked for the hot water to be placed in it. Our waiter's reply was that they don't have any hot water. Wait?! What??? you don't have enough hot water to fill a 1/4 cup? Don't you guys serve tea/coffee? What goes into your finger bowls? I mean we get the water crisis, but you don't have 1/4 cup of water for a baby's bottle??? Seriously?

Then I placed an order for a soft drink, and the manger himself placed the drink on my table and when I looked at the glass it was filthy with what seemed like food stains and bits of charred food on the side. I guess I should be grateful that at least the stains were outside the glass and not inside.

I also ordered a double Cheddamelt burger, and had to leave the second burger as it was far too burned and the burnt taste had soaked into the meat already, so I only enjoyed the bits of my first burger that I cut the hard black char away from.

My wife also was looking forward to having a good meal and finishing it off with a lovely piece of cheese cake as dessert, but after the meal she had, she entirely lost her appetite for dessert or anything else, so the whole experience was very disappointing.

After waiting long enough for someone to eventually pass our table, we had to flag down our waitress in order to settle our bill. We paid (and tipped, not because of service quality, but because it's a principle we adhere to), and left.

The only thing worth while was the time my son enjoyed in the play area, and absolutely nothing else. Seldom have we experienced both bad food and bad service, but today was the exception.
