Bad expensive shoes

Hi there, I just cannot believe that I have to write anther bad review. This time it is Spitz, a shop in Sandton that I always associated with high quality (and expensive) merchandise. I bought a pair of nice winter/rain shoes (Carvela), a long while ago, maybe seven or eight years ago. Lovely Italian shoes, name known to me for years for high quality shoes. They were secondary pair, worn three or four times a year. Primary pair were Ecco shoes, light, comfortable. However, having a weather that we have here those shoes spent most of their life in cupboard. The other day I decided to put Carvelas on to give them some exercise, so to speak. Didn't make two steps in a shopping mall and the soles started falling apart. Wherever I went I left a trail of broken rubber behind me. So, I took shoes back to the shop. The manageress told me immediately that I won't have any joy because guarantee is six (very short) months and shoes are older than ten years anyway (I am not sure they are that old but...). A week later she phoned me and said 'no luck'. They can't do anything, ten years old, bla bla. I want to mention that uppers are in perfect condition. So, my question is: why such bad quality rubber (or spunge) soles? I have shoes that are thirty years old (leather soles) and sit last 10-15 years in cupboard and they are still perfect. If they already make such ******* I think it would be prudent to warn customers that shoes won't last more than (say) a year and there is no come back. At least I can make a decision then whether to purchase or not. Like this all I get is a nasty (and possibly embarrassing) surprise. Thumbs down to Spitz and Carvelas. Similar thing happened to my Ecco shoes and friend's Timberland ones. None of them you could call cheap. Quality like that would better fit a cheap China made shoes. Regards. Mike Zubrinic
