SPARK School Midrand

I am deeply disappointed with SPARK School Midrand and how they handled my child’s academic journey.

Earlier in the year, the school contacted me to express “concern” about my child’s Mathematics results and mentioned a Retention Prevention Programme. I responded clearly and firmly, stating that I did not move my child from a public school to a private institution to watch him fail. I made it clear that I expect proactive intervention, structured support, accountability, and regular communication — especially for a core subject like Mathematics.

After that response, there was no meaningful engagement, no detailed intervention plan shared, no consistent feedback, and no evidence of the intensive support one expects when paying private school fees.

Instead, the next substantive communication I received was simply to say my child has failed.

This is unacceptable.

I do not pay school fees for:

Late reactions instead of early intervention

Generic policies instead of personalised learner support

Silence during the year, followed by failure at the end

Private education is paid for precisely to avoid this outcome. If a learner is struggling, the responsibility is shared — and the school must lead with expertise, urgency, and transparency.

SPARK positions itself as a high-performance, learner-centred institution. My experience does not reflect this promise.

I am requesting:

A full written explanation of what academic interventions were actually implemented

Evidence of ongoing support and progress monitoring

Accountability from the school for the lack of communication and ineffective intervention

Parents do not pay for outcomes like this — especially when concerns were raised early and clearly.

I am posting this so that other parents can make informed decisions and so that SPARK takes responsibility for how this matter was handled.

Thank you for the response. However, this matter was raised in December, not recently.

At that time, concerns were formally communicated, and expectations were clearly set around intervention, monitoring, and communication. Unfortunately, there was no meaningful engagement, no detailed action plan shared, and no evidence of sustained academic support provided thereafter.

A generic apology and assurances of seriousness, months later, do not address:

  • What was done after the issue was raised in December
  • Why there was no follow-up communication
  • Why the first substantive outcome communicated was that my child had failed
This is not a matter of patience. It is a matter of process failure, accountability, and service delivery in a fee-paying private school. I am still awaiting a formal, detailed response that addresses these points directly.
