Spark Midrand: A tragedy
If a zero star rating was possible, this would be it.
I have a child at SPARK Midrand and I can, sadly, confirm that their curriculum is miles far deficient in comparison to her peers at Halfway Primary. There is no visible/ transparent learning matrix that is measurable and can be supported by the parents, just random and (often poorly copied) photocopy sheets. Never seen a textbook or curriculum instruction manual.
There is a high staff attrition rate, my daughter has had a different maths teacher nearly every term - the last one having left for "greener pastures". The stand in teacher is making them do work that I have helped my daughter through in previous grades (that is if she is not leaving work on the board for the kids to do on autopilot, while attending to her "other job function"). No oversight on the quality of work done by the learners and no sight of the learner assessment performance (the tests never come home!). To augment the deficit, I am taking my child through paid subscription learning service, in addition to the fees that are actually not befitting quality of service.
The learners currently have a project to complete; they were all told to use the same topic because the teacher already has the relevant points/ details in place...how does this Foster a culture of diversity and information exchange in learning??? This is not for the children, it is for the teacher's convenience. If this was not a paid service, cutting corners would be acceptable.
I am deeply disappointed with this school. Basically, our children go to school to have their lunch and then come home to have the parents do what should have been done during the really long school day.
Caveat emptor.

I met an educator who works at the Kempton Park school and told me.they would never, ever, enrol their child at a SPARK school. I think that says it all.
