Review of SPARK Schools’ Financial Practices – A Single Mother’s Perspective
As a single mother who has worked incredibly hard to provide my child with access to private school education, I enrolled at SPARK Schools with high hopes. Their academic promise, structured environment, and values-based model appealed to me. But after nearly a year of financial distress caused not by my actions — but by deep systemic flaws in their accounting and billing systems — I feel compelled to share this experience so that others can make informed choices.
What You Need to Know as a Prospective Parent If you’re a single parent considering SPARK Schools: - Their academic environment is ok. The teachers care, the systems are structured, and there is a clear rhythm to the school calendar. - The financial systems, however, are broken. As of this writing (July 2025), I am still trying to resolve a billing error that began in 2024 — despite having paid every single month without fail, submitting all proof of payment, and even requesting a debit order to simplify the process.
What Went Wrong • Debit orders are not honoured. I signed up multiple times. They were not activated. • Statements are mismanaged. I received duplicate statements months apart — identical, uncorrected, even after submitting proof of every payment. • Payments are not properly allocated. Even after submitting a full reconciliation myself, including proof of payment SPARK continued to claim I owed money. • Arrears messages are automated and emotionally damaging. Receiving repeated messages threatening disconnection or penalties while knowing you’re paid up is not just frustrating — it’s dehumanising. • There has been no formal response or apology after weeks of written communication.
For Other Single Mothers Considering SPARK If you’re determined to put your child in a private school and SPARK is your only affordable option: 1. Keep your own spreadsheet of every invoice and payment. Don’t rely on their system. 2. Immediately request and confirm debit order setup in writing. 3. Save every communication and screenshot all proof of payment. 4. Don’t assume silence means the issue is resolved. Follow up constantly. 5. If you receive incorrect statements, raise a formal complaint immediately. A Note to SPARK Leadership This review isn’t written to shame you. It’s written because I want to believe in what you stand for. But the discrepancy between your academic mission and your financial processes is harming families, especially vulnerable ones. I ask that you:
• Invest in your finance systems and support teams. • Respond to parents with urgency and dignity. • Recognise the emotional impact of financial distress. • Honour your promise to “partner with parents.”
You still have the opportunity to restore trust. But it requires real action, not automated responses.
Choosing a school is not just a financial decision — it’s an emotional one. I want my child to feel safe, seen, and supported. I expected that from SPARK. I still hope they can be that place. But for now, I share my experience so no other single parent is left wondering if they’re the only one. You’re not. And you deserve better.
