Incident Involving a SAPS Police Officer

Good day,

I am writing to formally report an incident that took place yesterday (16/13/2025) evening between 19:00 and 20:00, involving one of your officers from the SAPS.

I recently bought a car and requested a friend to collect it on my behalf in Olifantsfontein, Clayville, as I am currently in the Northern Cape. While leaving the place where the car was collected, the car broke down due to a fuel shortage and was parked on the emergency lane along the road.

Shortly afterward, a Nissan Hardbody (registration number: FY 57 YB GP) collided with the car that was stationary from behind, causing major damage. The driver of the Hardbody, who was identified as an SAPS officer, was heavily intoxicated, in possession of a state firearm, and driving a state car.

Upon reporting the accident, officers from the Olifantsfontein Police Station arrived at the scene. However, there was a Constable who tried to interfere with the evidence by throwing away alcohol bottles. When questioned about his actions, he stopped.

Despite our efforts to seek justice, the matter was delayed until around 01:00am this morning without any concrete progress. To our surprise, the intoxicated officer was not subjected to a breathalyzer test. When my friend proceeded to the police station to open a case, he was informed that he could not do so because the officer handling the docket had not returned back to the police station. The case was only opened this morning( Case Number : 149/03/2025) and we are not certain that the blood test results were taken.

The lack of police cooperation is preventing me from obtaining the necessary report to file. It is deeply concerning that law enforcement officers, who are entrusted with upholding justice, appear to be protecting their colleagues through delaying tactics.

I urgently seek guidance on how to proceed with this matter. How can I ensure that proper action is taken against the officer involved and that I receive the necessary documentation to move forward? This situation raises serious concerns about accountability within the SAPS, and I hope for a prompt resolution.

I appreciate your immediate attention to this matter and look forward to your response.
