Bad service

I reported a theft out of vehicle on Thursday 10 August 2023 incident (9/8/2023) to Athlone Saps case number 138/8/2023 and a detective Sgt. was assigned to the case.

I went to Gatesville Shoprite the same day after lodging the case and requested the Shoprite Operations manager to check CCTV footage. She subsequently contacted me indicating that there was footage of the incident with about 4 offenders *****ing the items from my vehicle.

I have phoned Athlone Saps numerous times daily without success as the call is either transferred without any answer, referred back to the charge office or simply not dealt with. I simply wanted to add to list of items ****** and communicate the fact of the footage as well as request another attempt for finger print check on the side of the vehicle bakkie window.

This situation is intolerable. I have learnt that the detective is now off sick and it seems that the footage may become lost due to re- recording of the CCTV cameras. This is the worst service that any complainant may encounter but it seems to be the norm.

I will engage external and further recourse for this dereliction of duty and the failure of the State to fulfil its statutory mandate and function.
