Sony Xperia Z3 & IP Ratings - How do you prove your phone holds up to test?

<p>The Z3 Flagship phone from Sony (2016) boasted waterproof & shockproof IP ratings. Since owning this phone - I experienced what many others have (based on other website reviews), in that:</p> <p>1) glass backing developed hair line cracks due to heat and warping,</p> <p>2) Front screen cracks from even small falls (despite IP rating) and</p> <p>3) The charging port seal not sealing - meaning that when dropped into water the phone is ruined.</p> <p> </p> <p>HOW DO YOU GO TO PROVE THE PHONE DIDN'T HOLD UP TO ITS IP RATING?</p> <p>I had almost a year ago spoken to SSS (Sony repair South Africa) to provide me with answers - specifically how do they determine if SONY IP rating covers the shock / water the phone may encounter - and that a customer may want repaired under warranttee. I mean after all - I bought the phone with the expectation that it could withstand at least a fall from a pocket. The result - after dozens of emails - I always get single line responses - "Damage is not covered under warranntee". Despit asking specific questions, I always get the same non commital generic answer. I have kept these emails as reference.</p> <p> </p> <p>Having looked at the improvements on the Z5 (which I own) - I can see that the 2 issues noted above have been addressed (charging port at the bottom and no glass back anymore).</p> <p> </p> <p>In conclusion - I wish to ask SONY - how their technical repair center goes about scrutinizing a phone to determine if the water damage / shock damage was more than what SONY IP rating claims it can handle?</p>
