Unrully treatment and victimisation by Solar Guru

Magnus is dishonest, rude and arrogant. His team fitted faulty parts during installation and now he is refusing to take responsibility. He was not honest and transparent about the system he pushed to install at our home and now he is refusing to give us a refund for the poor system they installed. I am surprised at the way he speaks to me and wonder if this is how he speaks to his other customers. Are we being treated badly by Magnus because we are young, black and not from SA???? We have sadly have to reach out for legal advise because there is no way that he treats his customers like this. We have been victimised and taken advantage off by Magnus and his team. This is really sad that this still happens in this day and age

Dear Tendai

We are sorry to hear about your experience and would like to respond clearly and respectfully:

1. Contractual Terms
The quotation provided to you included clear terms and conditions, either directly on the quote or in the accompanying email header. According to South African law (CPA and ECTA), once a quote is accepted — whether verbally, by email, or by allowing work to commence — it becomes a legally binding agreement. You engaged our services, and as such, accepted those terms.

2. Our Offer to Assist
Despite not being obligated to do so, we offered to install an additional GeyserWise unit free of charge to resolve your concerns. We only asked that you provide an extra power point, which was declined.

3. On the Allegation of **************
We take this claim very seriously. We wish to state clearly: this matter has nothing to do with race or nationality. We treat all customers with the same level of respect and professionalism, and any suggestion otherwise is both unfair and incorrect. The dispute stems purely from contractual terms and a refusal to comply with agreed conditions.

4. Our Position
We installed the system according to SANS regulations and industry standards. The unit was working, and all documentation was provided. Unfortunately, when a client refuses to engage in constructive dialogue and instead resorts to public accusations, it leaves us with no option but to protect our business reputation through legal channels.

You are lying, we requested that you install a 300L that would suit our needs and house and you refused. You were making your sales with us by pushing 150L geysers and yet you did not listen to our needs and concerns. All you care about is making profit and not actually meeting the customers need.
We have sort legal action because of the way we have been treated, Magnus spoke to me in an inhumane manner, noone deserves to recieve such words.
You were not honest about the system you installed at our home, you did not reveal all the information about these geysers now we are having problems.
It's been less than a month since you installed the geysers and you refuse to take responsibility of the fact that you failed to reveal how the systerm works, you were dishonest and not transparent, and everyone needs to know how you treat people in true light and such dishonesty.

Thank you for your feedback. We take your concerns seriously and would like to respond with the facts.

You were quoted for two 150L geysers connected in series, which equals 300L total capacity — exactly as discussed. This was clearly stated on your quotation and supported by a product link in the email header for full transparency. At no point was this hidden or misrepresented.

Your claim that we only installed 150L is incorrect. The configuration was discussed in detail, documented, and executed exactly as quoted. The system provides the full 300L capacity, which meets standard household needs efficiently — and this was not a "push" for sales, but a technical solution aligned with your request.

We also reject the suggestion that our conduct was racially motivated. We serve clients from all backgrounds and treat everyone equally and respectfully. Allegations of ****** are very serious and unfairly damaging when made without cause.

Regarding communication, our team — including Magnus — remained professional and attempted to assist at every stage. If anything came across as harsh, we sincerely regret it, but it was never intended to offend.

Our full transparency, quotation history, and installed system all show that we have acted honestly and professionally throughout. We remain available to assist further, and encourage direct engagement to resolve any outstanding concerns.

Magnus did not mention that both geysers will need an electric point in the roof and on the DB board. He knew we only had one electeic point for our 300L geyser and when they came to installation the team saw this and they continued with the installation, with one geyser on electricity and the other one off electricity. Noone said anything to us about this, we only found out 2 weeks later as we were not not getting enough hot water. On some mornings we would only have luke warm water. Why was this not discussed with us beforehand?? Why did you go ahead installing these geysers without informing us that you can only put one geyser on electricity, who authorized this??? Now you are telling us that we must be responsible for hiring an electrician to create an an electric point so that we can have the other geyser put on electricity, this is ridiculous..... we refuse to settle for you failure to mention how the installation works. You basically took advantage of us and thought we would never pick it up but here we are now, and everything is out in the open. Have the decency to acknowledge that what you did was wrong. Instead of having 300L of hot water we only have 150L and this is not what we asked for.

We do not accept the allegation that Solar Guru took advantage of the customer or failed to deliver the system purchased.
Two 150-litre solar geysers were installed, providing the full 300-litre water-storage capacity ordered. The electrical connection is a backup-heating function—it does not determine the geysers’ storage capacity. The home had only one suitable electrical point, so only one unit could be connected to electrical backup at that stage. Both units could still heat water through solar energy.
Installing an additional electrical point and making alterations at the DB board were not included in Solar Guru’s quoted scope and must be completed separately by a suitably qualified electrician. Solar Guru’s installation team could not simply alter the home’s electrical supply without this additional work being properly arranged.
The statement that only 150 litres was installed or supp**** is therefore incorrect. The full 300-litre system was installed; the outstanding requirement was a second electrical backup connection. This can affect water temperature after limited sunlight, but it does not reduce the installed capacity to 150 litres.
The customer subsequently referred this matter to the relevant consumer complaints body. The complaint and supporting information were independently investigated, and no fault was found on Solar Guru’s side.
