Year and Half Old Smeg Stove Rusting & Poor Service
I own a stainless steel Smeg stove for a year and a half now, and unfortunately, we've come across an unexpected issue - rusting (please refer to the attached photos). This has truly caught us by surprise, as you wouldn't anticipate a stainless steel stove, which is practically new, to develop rust. Since the stove is still under warranty, we reached out to Save Hyper, the place where we originally purchased the stove, seeking an explanation and guidance on the process for addressing this matter. It seems to be a potential manufacturing or material-related concern. However, our experience with SAVE has been less than satisfactory, as they provided minimal assistance and shifted the responsibility onto us. They informed us that a Smeg representative would be sent to inspect the stove, making it our responsibility to arrange. Upon the inspector's arrival, he hastily pointed the finger at us, laying blame for using the wrong cleaning products - all without even examining what we had actually used. This hasty judgment was based solely on the fact that the cleaning products we used weren't Smeg branded. Interestingly, we personally know of individuals who have owned their Smeg stoves for over a decade, and they've never encountered rust issues, even without using the so-called 'Smeg cleaning products'. So, it's puzzling how we could be at fault here. As a result of this interaction, we were given two options: to trade in our stove by paying an additional R5000 or to replace the parts for R4900. It's truly bewildering that Smeg expects us to fork out even more money for a replacement stove. Keep in mind, we've already invested a significant amount in what was supposed to be a high-quality product. The presence of rust on a stainless steel stove, after just a year and a half, is both surprising and concerning. Considering that Smeg is considered a premium brand and should prioritize its customers' satisfaction, we're left feeling unfairly blamed and regretful about our decision to choose a Smeg product. We believe that such an issue shouldn't have arisen in the first place, and the response we've received so far hasn't met the standards we expected from a reputed brand like Smeg.
