Worst service ever, no assistance whatsoever.
Dear Singapore Airlines Team,
I hope this letter finds you well, although I must confess that I am far from feeling well myself after the recent experience I had with Singapore Airlines. Today, I write to express my extreme disappointment in the service I received during my travel on Flight SQ 481 and SQ 8616.
My story is one of frustration and confusion, starting from a long and exhausting journey throughout the night and an entire day spent at the airport from 05:00 to 22:30. To make matters worse, I was left stranded without any accommodation because I was unaware of a specific requirement for my journey. Although I had booked my tickets just the day before, I was only informed at the check-in counter that I could not fly on a one-way ticket.
My intention was to embark on a journey across South East Asia, and I had been advised by a future employer that I did not need a return ticket due to my continuous travel plans. It is deeply perplexing that Singapore Airlines did not communicate this requirement to me earlier, especially when your booking platform allowed me to purchase a one-way ticket without any warnings or notifications.
I had the financial means to book a return ticket, but at the late hour and during the weekend, it was practically impossible for me to arrange it. With prior notice, I would have rectified the situation promptly. Unfortunately, your service advisor, Thomas Layinda, offered no assistance whatsoever and insisted there was no way I could be allowed to fly out. This was a devastating blow after enduring an exhausting journey, and it left me in a state of despair. I was only collected the next morning at 11 am, further adding to my disappointment.
I was eagerly looking forward to a new chapter in my life, having sold most of my possessions and given up my rental property in preparation for this adventure. Now, I find myself stuck in a difficult situation, unable to continue with my plans. The level of customer service I received during this ordeal was the poorest I have ever encountered from an airline.
I understand that return tickets are necessary in most cases, but not all, and I had even booked a bus ticket to Cambodia to ensure I exited the country within the required timeframe. However, if there was any misinformation from the company I initially consulted, Singapore Airlines should have safety measures in place to prevent such bookings or, at the very least, inform passengers about this requirement.
I am in no position to discard the money I have invested in this journey, especially when it took me nearly two years to plan for it. My financial stability is at stake, and I cannot afford such a loss, which I believe is an untenable situation for anyone in today's world. I cannot overstate my extreme disappointment that Singapore Airlines did not offer any assistance, whether it be with a flight, accommodation, or even a simple phone call. I felt utterly abandoned and helpless during this ordeal.
Today, I have mustered the courage to continue pursuing my plans, as I cannot afford to let go of the considerable financial investment and dreams I had for this journey. I am more than willing to book a return ticket to comply with the requirements, but I implore Singapore Airlines to reconsider my case. Whether it's a refund, a voucher, or any form of assistance, I humbly request your support in this matter.
I believe that Singapore Airlines should take steps to prevent such situations from happening in the future by implementing clear communication regarding return ticket requirements. A follow-up email or notification would be greatly appreciated by passengers.
I kindly ask for your assistance in resolving this matter, as it holds the potential to shape my future. Below are my details for reference:
