Poor Health Care

I delivered my baby in this hospital, unfortunately it was a micro premature baby and was taken to an NICU. The unit was fairly new, some of the nurses would tell it straight that they haven’t worked in the NICU before. We were treated so bad by the staff and their attitude is horrible unlike a private hospital. I’ve tried complaining but it never worked the management is just as unhelpful.

This is one of complaints that I sent to them.

I felt it would be very prejudical to keep quiet and decided to make you aware that even though before there was no proof for our dissatisfaction regarding your NICU Staff, however this time there's a tangible proof on record. Photos we taken and a report was made.

My baby was transferred from your institution to EThekwini Hospital. Upon arrival she was examined. Our shocking discovery was a wound that was dripping puss at the back of her head as a result of unchanging sleeping position. Which I complained about It and Sister Ngubane argued It with so much contempt and attitude. It was also very disapointing that the issue was not even noted on the transfere records & EThekwini staff had to call to enquire about it. According to my understanding that was supposed to be disclosed to us parents but it was hidden, hence when EThekwini called your NICU had acknowledged it. That wound was not dressed for as long as she was there which I believe it's because it was hidden and kept a secrete so we wouldn't know about it.

I am extremely disappointed that we came to your PRIVATE hospital with so much confidence but our experience was not very pleasing from the beginning as you'd recall the number of complaints that we had brought up to you and the HR Manager. However I'd say we didn't get proper responce as it was made clear that you weren't aware there was so much happening hence you weren't prepared.

I later on also complained that the staff were leaving my baby in the isolation room ( they'd gather in the corner where they'd sit, chat and lough) Your isolation has a sound proof thar prevents them from hearing the alarms from outside. the same child that was dependant on ventilation for breathing. It made me fail to understand the intention of calling it ICU as it completely contradicts its practicality. I wouldn't wish for anyone to go through what I went through under Shelly Beach Hospital's Care, yes if point out a few people whom I feel they were great but if I were to advise; proper adoption of your principles and training should have been conducted before engaging patients in such an unpleasant environment, our emotions are being awfully abused under your care.
