Policy to keep original packaging for 1 year in order to have a faulty item exchanged or returned.

Good morning i bought an electric blanket from Northgate branch. one side switch is malfunctioning within the warranty period. I have thrown away the packaging and now you will not accept your faulty e blanket or exchange, without said packaging. who in todays household has a spare cupboard to store all the boxes and bags items come in? I'm not happy about this part of your policy, if its just a bag needed to be able to send it back to your manufacturer, will a suitable box not do?
