Discriminatory Practices and Poor Treatment of Customers

My experience at the Mall of Thembisa Sheet Street today was extremely disappointing. I walked into the store with my sleeping toddler in the shopping trolley, planning to use the trolley to hold the items I wanted to purchase. Upon entering, I greeted the sales assistants, who acknowledged me without issue. However, I was soon told to leave the trolley outside.

I explained that my toddler was sleeping in the trolley and asked how I was supposed to shop without it, especially since I planned to buy several items. Shockingly, I was told to leave my child and the trolley outside the store. In today’s world, such a suggestion is not only unsafe but also completely unacceptable.

Frustrated, I unpacked my trolley and left the store. There are plenty of other shops where customers are treated with respect and made to feel welcome. The level of service I experienced here was far below standard.

What’s even more upsetting is that I’ve never encountered this issue at Sheet Street branches in more affluent areas. This inconsistency is unacceptable and highlights a clear disregard for customer care at this branch. I am deeply disappointed and will think twice before returning.
