Services Seta/Better Best College leaving Electrical Students in the Dark

We (70 students) enrolled for a learnership in Electrical Construction in 2017 at Better Best College, Parow, Cape Town. We signed a three year contract which is suppose to end in 2020 after which we will be doing our trade test. This programme is funded by Services Seta and hosted by Better Best College in Parow.

A monthly stipend was part of the contract, and at the introduction, a member of Services Seta promised that they will do everything in their power to ensure that quality education will be delivered and that the three year programme will run smoothly. However this has been a BATTLE FROM DAY ONE.

That was the last we saw of Services Seta and every time we tried to make contact with Services Seta we were always put on hold or asked to call back as the person we needed to speak to was out of office. Leaving me with the question " When do this people ever work or do they just receive a monthly salary for doing absolutely nothing" On the other hand when we raised concerns with Better Best College all they would say is "We are waiting on feedback from Services Seta."

According to the roll out plan we were issued when we started the programme we were supposed to start our second year in Electrical Construction on the 14th of January 2019 Its almost a month later and we still have not started yet. Surely this is a matter of great concern. After contacting the CEO of Better Best College Mr Marnus Janse van Rensburg last month we were told that he is finalising the contract for our second year in Electrical Construction with Services Seta and we will start as soon as the go ahead is given by Services Seta. Last week Friday one of the students called Mr Janse van Rensburg and were told that everything has been finalised with Services Seta and that we will receive a starting date Monday 04th of February 2019. After not hearing anything from the college yesterday the student made a follow up call to Mr Janse van Rensburg and was told that we will only receive a starting date from next week 11th of February 2019

The question I'm asking is: -is Services Seta really serious about educating South Africa as they are using the tax payers monies to fund these learnerships, -are we ever going to start our second year in Electrical Construction or did we just waste a whole 12 months on peoples promises -will they ever be honest with us and give us the correct feedback when concerns are raised -will the stipends that is supposed to financially assist the students while we are studying ever be paid on time.

We as Electrical Students would appreciate it if anyone can assist in this matter, because we have been from the CCMA, to Department of Labour, to Services Seta to Better Best College and no one could help. Please help us to finish our studies and help grow the South African economy cause what we need more is qualified and educated people in our country. Thanks
