Social grant descrepancies.

I am writing this review with the hope that our Government will see it and respond accordingly. I have tried other avenues and failed to get clarity. I retired at the end of December 2018 at the age of 63 (company policy) I had worked for that company for 7 years only 2*** prior to that I was unemployed and had no income at all. In January 2019 I went to Sassa Maponya mall to apply for a social grant. They wanted all sorts of documents from me to prove that I was not employed and also to find out how much was my pension fund.

I gave them all they needed including a copy of an annuity that my company had set up for me so that I would get income for at least 10 years after retirement.

The monthly income I get from this annuity is R3600.00 (Three thousand and six hundred rands only) I have no other income besides this. I was not employed for a long time therefore this is all I could get. The social grant I get from Sassa is R1350.00 per month. I was not given an explanation as why mine is so low compared to the normal Sassa grant. I was puzzled and unhappy however due to being desperate I took it. The reason why I am now writing this review is to get clarity from Sassa as to why mine is so low and how they came to this figure. Also recently I was having a conversation with a doctor friend of mine who retired last years as well. Obviously we discussed our incomes including the Sassa grant which by the way she told me that she and her husband are getting as well and they are both doctors and retired same years as myself. She was shocked to hear what I get compared to them because they are getting full amounts of R1780.00, what shocked her too was that their monthly annuities and very much higher than mine obviously because their salaries were much, much higher than mine when we were all still working.

My question to Sassa is how do they determine what one gets? Don't they take into account what other income one gets monthly besides Sassa? My monthly annuity is very small I can hardly live on it, however other people who are getting far much more that what I get are still given so much social grants? Please minister will you kindly look into this matter and advise.

Kind regards.
