SANRAL scores own goal
As one of the three road users who has an etag and actually pays etolls, I need to express my indignance at an email I received from SANRAL this morning. Before yesterday my etoll account showed a credit. When I travelled to KZN from Gauteng yesterday, I was unaware that toll fees are now paid by etag. Great, you'd think. You'd be wrong though.

I was ready to pay tolls by card or cash but wasn't given this option, as the etag thingy beeped every time I sailed through a gantry. I was aware that my etoll account would show a negative balance and planned to top up my account this morning. After all, SANRAL makes provision for a 7 day grace period, right?

WRONG! This morning I received THREE (!) emails from the Roads Agency to say my account is R108 in arrears and tha it's been suspended.

Really, SANRAL? With this level of disregard for people who (stupidly perhaps) pay their etolls, does it still surprise you that almost no-one pays etolls.

I want an apology.
Thank you for your query, it is receiving attention. SANRAL will revert with a response.
