Lower Sabie camp needs a management revamp.

For a BD3Z disabled unit: Upon check in we noticed the unit didn’t have a shower. Whilst this was not a deal breaker, we wondered how someone with physical challenges would be able to use the deep bath. It looked impossible to get in and out of.

I was prepared to overlook the fact the floor tiles are all cracked and make crunching noises as one walks on them... the tub of leftover food in the deep freeze... the kitchen sink full of dirty dishwater. What was a deal breaker was the fact the toilet didn’t work and was being held together with cable ties. Clearly the problem was well known and this was the solution. I personally did not want to remove the cistern and plunge my hand into the toilet in order to work the mechanism to flush. Whilst using the bathroom I tried to close the sliding door and it took all my strength to shift.

This unit is a disgrace and I cannot imagine the anguish I would have been in had I been reliant on it being a disabled unit.

We requested another unit and was told the camp was full. We then investigated alternative accommodation and had to pay in for Biyamiti.

The team at reception were friendly and this has been a running theme throughout our stay in Kruger. The general line staff are wonderful and doing the best they can. We witnessed them being shouted at and reassured them to ignore such horrid people.

Management at Lower Sabie is unfortunately failing miserably. This is one of the most popular camps in Kruger due to the incredible sightings in the area but it is on the bottom of my list to return too. I won’t be booking accommodation at Lower Sabie until a complete overhaul of the camp and its management is done - an enthusiastic and proactive team is desperately needed here. The current management's reactive approach of waiting for paying guests to report (very obvious) issues is really getting tired.
