The penalty fees they charge
Are you guys aware that the SABC - when your license fee is due for R260 per annum they are charging extra R30 per month for each month you are late paying - that i would call a rather excessive interest rate <br> <br> Surely this is just absolute *******ion especially seeing most of us who have tv dont need the SABC

Your enquiry dated 5 November 2015 regarding the penalties charged on the TV-licence with the number *** has reference.
In the event of payment being made late, the Broadcasting Act no 4 of 1999 as amended which governs the activities of the SABC provides for a penalty of 10% of the annual fee [R26.50] for every month or part thereof that payment is received late, to a maximum of 100% per annum. If left unpaid the monthly penalties result in the licence fee doubling after ten months, but then does not increase any further year on year.
