Showing outstanding balance though account is paid
Good Day Dear SABC,<br> <br> Please note that you are not financial service provider to charge penalties etc. I was in overseas and did not get time to renew my tv license. How can you add penalties to my tv license. I have paid up normal amount. Please update my account with cancelling those charges.<br> <br> Regards,<br> Sai Kiran

Dear saikirannalla,
Your enquiry dated 7 July 2015 regarding the penalties charged on the TV-licence with the number *** for late payment refers.
A television licence fee is payable in advance at the beginning of each licence year - in other words, on of before the annual renewal date. In the event of payment being made late, the Broadcasting Act no 4 of 1999 as amended and the Regulations under this Act which governs the activities of the SABC, provides for a penalty of 10% of the annual fee [R26.50] for every month or part thereof that payment is received late, to a maximum of 100% per annum.
Your TV-licence commences from 1 April to 31 March each year. We have unfortunately received payment only in July [over three months] after your renewal date. I have managed to reverse one penalty since the payment was received in the same month it was levied.
Please settle the outstanding balance at your earliest convenience to avoid further penalties being levied and your account.
