<p>I am a paying customer of SABC TV licence. i was delayed in making a payment for last year's fees and subsequently made a payment in July this year. I paid the fees requested by SABC and today, 25/10/2016, 3 months later I get a sms saying they are sending me a letter of demand. When I called the lady told me it's penalty fees for late payment. After making a payment in July 2016 I am still paying penalties!!!! I don't understand how I am being charged penalty ever since when my payment was made for last year. Why are we, paying citizens, being charged penalities non-stop when there are thousands on people not even paying a cent??? What are these penalties???? I need clarity please</p>

Your enquiry regarding the penalties levied on your outstanding balance dated 25 October 2016 has reference.
a Television licence is payable before your annual renewal date. a Penalty of 10% of the licence fee is levied if payment is received late. The onus rests on the holder of a TV licence to renew same in good time.
The penalties on your TV licence was levied due to late payment/renewal. Your account balance has however been adjusted and the penalties reversed based on your payment history.
Your account has no outstanding balance and is paid up until 31 December 2016 when you will again have to fulfill your legal obligation to renew same.
