Refusing to cancel my TV License even though I don't have a TV
In December 2017 I called the South African SABC TV License department to explain my situation and ask how to go forth. The representative advised that I need to download the affidavit from the internet, fill it in, get it stamped by the Police department and send it to their email address which is ********** On 29 December I emailed the requested documentation to the SABC at ********** I haven't heard anything from them. Today on 09/01/2018 I called to follow up.
The first lady that answered the phone was happy to help me, she then said that I needed a whole lot of other documentation to cancel my TV License. I am not able to get the required documentation and asked that the call could be escalated so that another plan can be made. Her first reaction was an immediate "NO". Almost shouting at me, from the service level went down hill, and suddenly the friendly representative turned into a very rude one. I insisted that the call gets escalated. She then put me on hold for 9 minutes upon which her colleague picked up the phone. This colleague of hers firstly refused to give me her name. She started shouting at me stating that they cannot help me, I was trying to talk to her and explain, but she didn't give me a chance to speak.
How must one pay for a TV License if you don't own a TV.
