Refunding of overpaid tv license fees
I paid my tv license for 2015-16 in December 2014. On 25 July I went to Pick n Pay Hypermarket to purchase a new television only to be told be an agent in front of a lot of people, that my tv license for the current year is still outstanding and that they cannot and will not sell me a new tv if I don't pay the arrears of R265.05. I showed her my proof of payment but she insisted that they have nothing on the system and that I should pay up and sort it out with the SABC. I paid them the fees and got my tv. I called the SABC's call centre and was asked to e-mail all my documents and proof of payment to Avril Damons. I did this but never received any feedback. After numerous attempts to get hold of Avril, I sent her another e-mail asking who I can escalate the matter too. She then responded by saying that Pick n Pay loaded my home address as my holiday house and that it has now been rectified. I enquired about the refund, but after 3 months I am still waiting on an answer from the SABC regarding my refund. The call centre agent told me that they get this type of situation on a regular basis! It is apparent that they lack the eagerness to assist you when it comes to refunding you.
