Not able to cancel my liscense??
I haven't watched tv in the last 2 years, last year I had to obtain a tv licenses in order to by a screen from incredible connections. I'm a graphic & web designer & use this as a display screen at expo's and presenting to clients. I've emailed [Email Removed] for the first time on Feb 3, 2015 to inform them that they need to cancel my tv licenses since I see no reason why I need one, its not even connected anything except my xbox from time to time. I phoned them on that same day to confirm this, and was told that they haven't received anything yet, but they will sort it out as soon as they email is received. On the 28 of April I got a sms threatening me with their lawyer, saying I'll be handed over if I dont pay within 3 days. So I phoned again, they could not find my email on the system, so I was asked to resend it, which I did that same day, and again was told that it would be sorted? So today I get a final warning regarding amount of R 291,50 outstanding? I again phoned them, where I'm now told I need a affidavit stating what happened to my tv? Nothing happened to it! Why 3 months, 2 emails & 3 phone calls later, they only respond with this now? I need this canceled.

TV Licences are payable in terms of to the Broadcasting Act no 4 of 1999 as amended and the Regulations under this Act that governs the SABC's activities.
The Act stipulates that no one may have a TV set in his possession or use a set without being in possession of a licence, issued by the SABC against payment of the prescribed fee.
A \television set\" is defined in the Act as \"any apparatus designed or adapted to be capable of receiving a broadcast television signal\".
