Ignorance of cancellation

Good day<br> <br> I am writting with regards to the smses i always get regarding my payment for TV license which i cancelled in 2009 after it crashed. I was asked to fax an affidavit, and i did, same year which was 2009, and i was leaving for the states same year. To my understanding, i thought the cancellation has been done. Now i am expected to pay R1500 for TV licence, for a TV which i reported but nothing was done about my issue and the documentation that i submitted. I am not impressed with this, clearly tells me that somewhere somehow someone didn't do his or her part. I cant be paying so much money, and yet i have reported. I mean after almost 5 years i am getting smses to come and make a payment for something i reported? Is that how you work? I need some answers please.
