Failure to send statements and notifications

I sent this message to the SABC TV LICENCE contact center on 13th November and STILL HAVE NOT received a response.

I'm extremely upset that I keep getting an sms only once my TV licence is in arrears, but I never get any notification to tell me when my TV licence is due.

Growing up, I remember my parents always received a notification letter of when their TV licence payment was due and how much it would cost. Nowadays, it seems that SABC TV LICENCES just don't send letters at all. My mom only got an email last year (2 months after she made payment even though she didn't know when it was due) because she had made payment.

I don't even know why I have to pay for a TV licence. The only reason I have one is because I was forced to apply for one when I bought a TV for my mom as a gift a few years back. Makro refused to accept my mom's TV licence account for the purchase (even though I live with her and I could prove it with my proof of residence). I accepted the responsibility of a TV licence because the consultant told me that I would have to get my own TV licence if I make the purchase myself.

I feel that it's unfair towards me because I end up always having to pay exorbitant amounts in excess due to late payment because I don't get notifications unless the account is already quite in arrears.

I would like to know how I can go about canceling either my or my mom's TV licence as I still live with my mom and she is still paying her own TV licence. It makes absolutely no sense for us to pay two TV licences in one household, especially seeing as how my mom is a pensioner and I'm the sole breadwinner to a household of 7 people.

Extremely disgruntled, disgusted, and disappointed.
