APPALLING SERVICE

I am furious at the PATHETIC service I have received from the SABC.

My license expired September. I got married in November and sent a mail in the beginning of November regarding the procedure to cancel 1 license. If I was to pay any amount it would have been for 2 months being October and November. I received NOOOOOOOOOOO feedback.

When we came back from honeymoon I phoned your offices and was told that they received my mail, upon asking why I didnt get any feedback I was told that now that I am on the phone they are telling me the procedure. I was told to send a copy of my marriage license and copy of ID's. This was done on the 24th of November.

My husbands account was paid to date and valid till Mid 2017. THEY decided on cancelling the valid license and KEEPING the money, keeping my account and thus far CHARGING me 4 months penalties. THEY received my documentation in November already. I was told today that changes to accounts take 2 months. Absolutely Ridiculous.

I DIDNT GET ANY RESPONSE TO MY EMAIL REGARDING THE CHANGES. NOTHING COMPLETE SILENCE. PROBABLY SO THEY CAN KEEP ON CHARGING ME PENALTIES.

What happened to the credit on my husbands account. Why was that not transferred?????????

COMPLETE AND UTTER INCOMPETENCE AND *****ING FROM CITIZENS.

I absolutely refuse to pay the penalties due to their *********** staff. The months paid by my husband needs to be credited to my account, then I will pay the remainder.

We dont even watch their stupid channels.

I spoke to Rudi Swart who defends the actions of the SABC.

I still dont understand their business practice.

Licenses are paid in advance. You have 2 options, a monthly debit order which is deducted at the beginnig of the month or pay a year in advance at a reduced price. That means your months are paid in advance and if you cancel your license you dont use the months that were paid therefore there is a credit to be paid back to the consumer. In our case, the licenses were to be merged therefore the credit on the one account is to be transferred to the other, but according to the SABC this cant happen. I should have phoned their offices before we got married. I dont even own the TV my husband does. My license is older than his so they keep mine open and refuse to transfer his credit? HOW ON EARTH does that make sense? I asked Mr Rudi Swart if he thinks their business practice is fair and if he would accept this if he was in my shoes, he apparently is not in the position to answer me.

He did however make an offer to credit the penalties on the account which I am now waiting for before I pay the balance of the account. We dont even watch their mediocre TV channels. I am therefore paying for their bonusses and ********** activities. Way to go SABC, you are on par with the ********** government.

Response received from Rudy Swartz,

------------------

Dear ---------,

Your enquiry to HelloPeter dated 23 January 2017 regarding your TV licence refers.

You have requested that your husband’s TV licence be kept active since you are now married, however this cannot be done as we keep the oldest/first account active and merge/close all latter accounts which is in line with our mode of operation and business rules of the TV Licences Division.

The payment on your husband’s TV licence could not be transferred as per your request as the date of marriage came after the renewal of your TV licence. A pro-rata payment could also not be transferred since a TV licence is payable in full at the beginning of the licence year.

The SABC has however reversed all the penalties which were levied on the active TV licence with the number ---------- in your name thus leaving you responsible for the renewal of your TV licence for the period 1 September 2016 to 31 August 2017. Please refer to the statement attached.

NB: We can change the details on the active TV licence from yours to Mr. ------- upon your request.

I furthermore thank you for bringing that matter to our attention and for your continued support.

I checked their online billing and the credit was processed. I do however still disagree with their procedures however I have better things in my life to worry about than a TV License. I have therefore contributed to the annual bonus fund of the SABC by paying the annual fee.

Even though my complaint was addressed and Mr Swartz offered and actioned said offer, I will not change my rating as I still do not agree with their business practice.
