Write off

I was in a car accident on 24 Jan, a minibus taxi crashed at the back of my vehicle on the N12 freeway. The cost to repair the vehicle was initially 90 000 and on the 26th Feb the panel beater (MAG) advised to say that more damages were found which cost more than the value of the vehicle but they are insisting on repairing it which does not make sense as now the cost is more than 100 000 in this case the car should be a write off. The insurance does not want to write it off as they FEEL that they are losing money and therefore there clients should be left out to suffer with damaged cars. The want to get rich at my expense and they are not servicing their clients with honesty and integrity Anyone out there looking for insurance SAU is not an option, I regret the day that I signed up with them.

Hello tshepang19,

After your vehicle's damages where assessed by independent assessors, the cost of repairing the vehicle amounted to R90 629.01 and this was the authorised amount sent to the repairer. Whilst busy repairing the vehicle additional damages were found which increased the cost of repairs to R107 000.00. It is not unusual for additional damages to be found once the damaged parts are removed.

The additional damages however still do no warrant the vehicle to be declared uneconomical to repair in other words written off. For the vehicle to be considered a write off the cost of repairing the vehicle would have to exceed a R112 381.50.

As the repair costs do not exceed the above mentioned total loss amount, the insurer cannot authorise the vehicle to be written off.

Regards
The SAU Team

Best regards,
