Why pay for insurance? R3000 for an over R60000 claim?

We have a policy with SA Underwriters for many years. It was the first time ever that we put a claim in. My car was broken into and my laptop and handbag was ****** from my car. I have the case number, the video footage and all proof of the ****** goods. I sent all these with my claim. I faced such trauma, emotional and financial loss. I claimed over R60 000 but was told that only R3000 will be covered as this is what my policy covers. How sad indeed and I seriously wonder why do we pay for insurance monthly?

Dear Mrs N,

Thank you for reaching out and bringing your concerns to our attention.

We sincerely regret that your recent experience regarding your claim has not met your expectations.

Please be assured that we take all feedback seriously and strive to provide every client with a professional and supportive service, especially during stressful times such as a claim.

Your home contents insurance with us covers you for items ******, lost or damaged inside your home.

Should you require cover for items outside of the home, they would need to be specified separately and the applicable premium paid – this is referred to as a specified all risk.

Unfortunately, you have not specified any items to have covered outside your home and therefore you are not paying for this benefit.

However, should you wish to specify certain items on your policy, please contact us for more information or for a quotation.

We appreciate your understanding and are committed to resolving the matter appropriately.

Kind regards,

The SAU Team
