SAU complaint

Hi, my husband and I have an insurance under SAU. It happened that I got involved in a car accident 5days back and now they just phoned us telling us that they won't be able fix our car. And we are paying them R1050 each and every month. They are now telling us to fix our own car because the damage has exceeded the excess limit. The insurance is registered under my husband name. I'm am truly disappointed and very sad. The lady's name is Prudence Baloyi that called us, she was very rude and In a hurry to hung up the phone before we could even finish talking.

Dear Lebogang M

Thank you for your message
We have investigated the matter and can now provide the following feedback
An excess is the amount payable by an Insured at claims stage. It is an undertaking that you will bear a portion of your loss in respect of every claim.

You have agreed to and accepted a policy with your Broker that included a Basic excess and additional excesses.
You also chose voluntary excess of R10 000 in exchange for a lower monthly premium. All these excesses were explained in detail when you accepted the policy with your Broker.
This means that any claim that is less than the excess would be for your own account and the Insurer only becomes liable if the claim amount is greater than the applicable excesses.

You cannot dispute an excess that you, yourself have chosen, therefore the Insurer is not liable for the damages and the cost of repairs will be for your own account.

We advise you to fami****ise yourself with your policy contract and contact your Broker should you need further information

Kind Regards

The SAU Team
