PASSING THE BUCK

I had an accident in Dec and registering a claim was a problem from the beginning. No one was ever available to assist and when i finally managed to physically go to their offices to do so I was told I could not register a claim if I did not have the details of the person who knocked into me. fast forward claim is now registered almost a month later, now i do not qualify for car hire? I have never declined this option at sales stage and now the insurer says the broker should have offered same to me and vis versa. i have listened to both sales calls from the broker and the insurer and no mention is made of car hire and as a consumer taking out comprehensive cover I was under the impression that it is compulsary and is includd in the policy only to be informed of this at claims stage. according to my knowledge even if this is an "added on service" I should have the option to include this or decline it as this affects my premiums. this was not done and as a result I am already getting information to take this to the ombudsman should this not be resolved before my car finally goes in for repairs.
